During the hottest times of the year is when your AC unit decides to stop working. Mainly because it is being taxed to the limit during a heat wave. Or it could be perhaps you just haven’t had it inspected for some time. On other situations repairing the air conditioning unit is a very simple fix that anyone could do on their own.
The last thing you want to have to deal with on a very hot day is a lack of air conditioning because the unit stopped working. We all know that dreaded feeling when the cold air stops blowing. The feeling from the warm air as the temperature in your home creeps higher and higher. At this time you wish you had called the AC repair company to fix your air conditioning.
Now that you are facing a problem AC unit, the first thing you need to do is relax. It may just be a very simple fix. Many times what happens is the AC condenser line gets clogged with algae and other debris. This ends up causing a backup and the machine stops working correctly. Usually when this happens you will notice the AC hose leaking. You will possibly see it having some sort of icy mix to it on the floor.
Fixing a clogged condenser is very simple and doesn’t require a professional. All you need to do is locate the outdoor PVC pipe where the AC unit drains. What you need to do is take your garden hose that has a nozzle attached to it and spray water inside the PVC pipe opening for 5 to 10 seconds. What follows next should be an outpouring of sludge, mainly algae, dirt and other debris that have clogged up the system.
After seeing all of this sludge come out of the pipe, go back inside and turn the AC unit on. If a clogged condenser line was the problem, then the unit should turn back on and begin to blow cold air almost. Most of the time this should do the trick, but if you’re still getting warm air through the vents, it may be a more serious issue that requires a professional inspection.
Contact a local AC repair specialist to take a look at the unit because it may be any number of problems. At least you tried fixing the simple issue on your own, but sometimes these delicate AC units need to be replaced.
